Who has sleep apnea?

What is sleep apnea?

The most common form, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, occurs when a blockage in the airway prevents normal breathing. Cardiology patients may also suffer from Central Sleep Apnea which is the cessation of breathing without a blockage.
Testing
Traditionally, sleep apnea is detected by staying overnight at a sleep lab where patients are wired to 12 or more electrodes and monitored by a technician. Now, with the Nexan ClearPath System, your doctor can place one comfortable patch on your chest that records your information in the comfort of your own home. Wear it overnight and drop it in the mail or return it to your doctor’s office the next day for analysis.
Treatment
Sleep apnea can be treated safely and effectively. The most common treatment is CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), a simple device worn at night that maintains an open airway eliminating sleep apnea. Other treatments, such as oxygen, are also available.

Sleep apnea can be deadly.
